Blogging

Well as anyone who has looked at my blog or actually read any of it knows, I am not a very good blogger.  I am new at this and hope that I will learn more and get better! I just can't seem to remember to take my camera when we go out to dinner! I know I need to put the old one in the car and leave it there, but then I'll for get to take it in and have to go out to the car during the meal so I don't know if I would do that ether. So hopefully soon I will get in the habit of taking my camera when we go out on our dinner excursions.

XOCO and Blogging

So needless to say I forgot to take my camera when we went to Rick Bayless'  XOCO last weekend! Hopefully I can snag some pics. from the website.  www.rickbayless.com.

We went on a Sat. and got there about 6pm. We had a large group (7 of us) that we wanted to keep together so our wait was about an hour. We could have been seated earlier if we were in smaller groups. While you are waiting in line you can order drinks and appetizers.
There are windows outside where you can look in and see churros and other pastries being made. From the inside by the register where you place your order is a glass panel just up to head high where you can watch from in the restaurant while you are waiting.

While we were waiting a lady was back there making delicious looking things. One of which was meringue that was being whipped in a mixing bowl and to be put on top of tarts. While she was putting the meringue from the bowl into a pastry bag my husband said to her "you should charge to lick the bowl".  She said "we'd probably make some money on that", and we all laughed. A few seconds later she came up to the window with several plastic spoons and the bowl of meringue and gave us each a spoon full!  She said "I think Rick would approve". We were happily amazed!  I do not like meringue but this was not just beaten egg whites, I don't know what else they put in it but it was thick and rich and very good!

My husband ordered the  Ahogada Torta: Golden pork carnitas, black beans, tomato broth, spicy arbol chile sauce and pickled onions.  He said it was fantastic the soup and the sandwich and he would order it again if we went back!

I ordered the Woodland Mushroom Torta: Wood-roasted garlic mushrooms, Prairie Fruits Farm goat cheese, black beans, wild arugula, 3-chile salsa. It was amazing!                                                               The goat cheese was so creamy and rich and through out every bite. And everything was extremely fresh!

And for desert we had Churros and Hot Chocolate.
We had the Barcelona Hot Chocolate, thick rich and creamy
liquid love!
They make 5 different kinds of Hot Chocolate!

Barcelona: thick, rich

This was an amazing dinner and a very fun trip with our family! We had a blast and highly recommend dining at Rick Bayless'  XOCO!

A Random Thursday

One random Thursday I just happened to have the day off work. My Hubby says "let's go out to lunch". So I think we are going some where close by before he has to go to work. While we are driving I notice we are heading to Chicago. I said "you don't have to work to day do you"? He had taken the day off to surprise me with going to Cemitas Puebla another Triple D restaurant!  http://www.cemitaspuebla.com

Cemitas are a Mexican sandwich found only in Puebla, Mexico. Sesame seed bread layered with avocado, choice of meat, Adobo Chipotle Peppers, fresh Oaxacan cheese and Papalo(seasonal). The sandwiches were very good and different from any other Mexican food I have had, but my husband's favorite thing was a Taco Arabes: spit roasted pork an onions wrapped in a thick tortilla served with a chipotle salsa (on the show they  called it a Mexican Gyro!). He said it was awesome!

We had another great time checking out a new place! The food was great, the owners were very nice. You should check it out sometime.
